You will not be disappointed by BC Smith BE12LU30 bought the LG because it had the features I was looking for an external hard drive capable of fast read / write CD, DVD and BD discs of various types. He also wanted the ability to print a label on the disc using LightScribe technology. There are not many external Blu-ray to choose from and rewrite it, which just launched in October 2010, had not yet been analyzed by end users, but I decided to give him a chance. I was not thrilled with the color scheme of white and black exterior, but the unit has a solid feel as well built for him. I like the blue color of read / write activity indicator on the front and support that allows it to be placed upright to minimize the impact on the environment. BE12 can connect to your computer via USB 2.0 or eSATA. I use the eSATA port for maximum 12x writing speed using the USB port, the performance drop to 6X. ESATA port can handle 3000 Mbps versus 480 Mbps for USB, although the capacity of the eSATA port is not fully utilized. A short cable is included to an internal SATA port into an eSATA slot plate on the back of a tower computer chassis. I did not try, but the software is a tool that Boost USB data rate via a USB improves. I installed BE12 on my Lenovo Q700 HTPC running Windows 7 without any problems. A CD is included with some CyberLink applications: Power2Go, PowerDVD, PowerProducer, MediaShow, power backup and label printing. They are not the latest versions, however. The software also includes amplifier and the LG USB Tool Kit. The latter should be performed when the find and install the latest LG firmware for the device. The start automatically when the computer starts. You may want to disable run msconfig and disable `LG Firmware AutoUpdate" in the Startup tab can also be run from the Start menu. BE12LU30 is a LightScribe drive, but except for a small LightScribe logo on the back of the box, this feature is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation. You must install the LightScribe to use this feature. It can be downloaded from the LightScribe website. When this software is installed, the tool LabelPrint automatically detect that there is a LightScribe drive connected and provide the ability to print a label design directly on the front of the disc. You must put the disc into the tray to print the label, and apparently there is a sensor to detect the presence of the LightScribe disc in the right position so that you can not make a mistake. Unfortunately, CDs and DVDs are available at this Now with the surface of LightScribe printing. I have only a few times so far BE12 When you write a DVD + R disc using a LightScribe label and once to write to a BD-R disc. I used in both cases and Power2Go burns were performed without a glitch. The drive is relatively quiet as well. I wrote 820MB of data on DVD + R for 15 minutes at 16X and another 15 minutes to print LightScribe label. So I wrote to 6.3GB data on a BD-R disc in 72 minutes at 12x speed. Both discs are written correctly in the first attempt. I am very pleased with the apparent quality of BE12, his ability to read / write virtually all CD, DVD and BD media and their excellent performance. I have no hesitation in recommending this Blu-ray drives. 34 of 34 people found the following review helpful. Reliable, fast and one of the best on the market of L.
